
What is HPV?
HPV (human papillomavirus) is a very common group of viruses transmitted through sexual contact.
The HPV vaccine helps protect against a group of viruses commonly spread through sexual contact. Some strains of HPV can lead to serious health issues, including certain cancers.
Immunisation is the most effective way to lower your risk.
Who is the HPV vaccine recommended for?
Adolescents and young people aged 9–25 years
People with severely weakened immune systems
Men who have sex with men
HPV vaccination is free for the following patients through the National Immunisation Program (NIP):
Young people and adolescents aged 12 to 13 if routine school-based vaccination was not possible
Catch-up vaccination is available for people who missed the HPV vaccination as a young person, up until 26 years of age.
