The importance of green leafies

Green leafy vegetables such as Kale, chard, rocket and spinach are essential aspects of the human diet if we want to feel healthy and vibrant.

They are also often the most ignored vegetables. They are nature’s multivitamin in plant form, containing extremely high amounts of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, phytonutrients, fibre and good doses of protein. In fact they have more nutrition per calorie than any other food!

Fun ways to include more greens in your diet:

  • Green smoothies!! Yummy, nutritious, energy dense. Give them a go today!

  • Lunch time salads – try a salad instead of your regular sandwich, focaccia or roll.

  • Mix green leaves in stir fries and pasta dishes after cooking.

  • Stir fry some green leaves with your eggs at breakfast time.

  • Start each meal with a small green salad

Green smoothie recipe:

  • 2 cups baby spinach

  • 1 banana

  • ½ cup blueberries

  • 1 cup coconut water

Blend and enjoy!

This is a basic green smoothie recipe. Most fruits and green leaves can be used in any combination you like. I will also usually add in some vital greens powder for an extra nutrient hit!
